Online Wedding Contest: Guests To Arrive

October 7, 2010

1072212_honeymoonThe Bermuda Department of Tourism ran a marketing promotion this summer in which the internet heavily featured, with winners due to arrive in the island this week.

In April of this year the online contest launched in which contestants submitted their details, the specific wedding theme they would like to win, 10 reasons why they want to get married in Bermuda along with a photo. The initiative was a co-branded partnership between the Bermuda Department of Tourism and the Knot, a leading wedding resource.

The concept involved giving ten brides and grooms the opportunity to win a free wedding in Bermuda, and over 800 couples entering the contest. The 30 finalists, three couples for each wedding, drew nearly 10,000 votes between them. This translated into Bermuda receiving approximately 3.8 million impressions, via different pages of the website.

This coming Friday will see ten brides and grooms descend on the island to marry in various hotel locations this weekend. Jet Blue agreed to support the initiative with a free charter to bring down the couples and eight of their guests. The ten couples and their friends and families arrive at 5.00 p.m.

Tourism Director William Griffiths said that the department is “beyond excited” and welcomes the buzz of activity taking place in Bermuda tourism right now.  He said, “We’ve had a nonstop couple of weeks with in Bermuda tourism. Last week it was the Canadian Tour operator visit, this past weekend it was the Bermuda Music Festival and the North America tour operator summit, and this upcoming week it’s and the Perfect Ten Wedding event. So we think it’s important to shine the spotlight on some tourism positives.”
