79 Arrests Over Halloween Weekend

November 1, 2010

Over the Halloween weekend, the Bermuda Police Service, supported by the Bermuda Reserve Police were out in large numbers. The Police say that “although the weekend was busy, the number of Halloween-related disorder incidents was notably less than anticipated making this one of the quietest Halloween events in many years.”

There were 79 arrests, 43 of which were for warrants. There were 8 arrests for driving while impaired – 4 women and 4 men. There were also 3 arrests for driving while disqualified. 13 were arrested for drugs and 5 for dishonesty offences. There were 16 incidents of rocks and eggs thrown at vehicles but fortunately no injuries as a result. There were 2 reports of gun shots heard but no evidence found to corroborate either report.

Police say they were very active conducting stop and check operations and “reports indicate the public was very patient and supportive of their efforts to make Bermuda safer”. Police report large numbers of revelers – particularly on Saturday night.

The Bermuda Police Service has extended their thanks to everyone for doing their part to make Halloween a safe event.
