Library: Free Bermuda Film Series
Today [Nov 26] in the House of Assembly Minister of Public Information Services Neletha Butterfield spoke about the free lunchtime film series at the Bermuda National Library.
Minister Butterfield said “The Bermuda National Library is attempting to showcase films by or about Bermudians, along with films about Bermuda: our environment, our past, and our goals for the future.”
Some of the films shown include:
- Bermuda Five Centuries – “The powerful story of Bermuda’s people and past, a living history that captures the spirit of Bermudian character” by Panatel productions.
- The Riddle of the Crest – “The half-hour documentary is based on an article written by Dr. Philippe Rouja, Bermuda’s custodian of historic wrecks. [watch full movie online here]
- First Christmas – by Alastair Macdonald – “The story of the birth of Jesus Christ is told by Zeke, Joseph’s faithful and hardworking donkey. .
- Behind the Mask: Bermuda Gombeys past, present and future – “A documentary about the history and the future of bermuda’s folk dance troupes”
- Bermuda’s Defence Heritage – “The dynamic history of Bermuda’s fortifications, local military forces and war veterans” – compliments the commissioner’s house exhibit.
- The Bermuda Tattoo – a celebration of music and military precision featuring local and overseas participants held at the Royal Naval Dockyard in October 2005.
- The Lion and the Mouse: the story of America and Bermuda – “The Lion and the Mouse, narrated by Michael Douglas, tells the story of twin British Colonies, America, and Bermuda over the last 400 years through centuries of war and the development of modern times. The moral of the story is that little friends can make great friends.”[watch preview]
All films are being screened on Tuesdays and hursdays throughout the month of deDcember and start at noon. Space is limited due to the size of the room. If any groups are interested in seeing a specific film they may contact Ms Ellen Hollis at ejhollis@gov.bm to arrange a special viewing. Special arrangements can be made for groups of between 6 and 15 persons.
