Video: Minister DeSilva Addresses Health Care

November 6, 2010

Newly appointed Minister of Health Zane DeSilva addressed the media after the Throne Speech yesterday [Nov 5] saying “that the Ministry of Health is focused on the future,” and that our future encompasses a “modern hospital which provides world class services that reduces the need for Bermudians to travel overseas.”

Minister DeSilva addressed other matters of healthcare including cost effective health insurance, preventative medicine, and access for the disabled. The Minister also said it was an honour to follow in the footsteps of the former Health Minister, the late Nelson Bascome.

Heathcare was addressed during the Throne Speech, with Sir Richard saying “on the healthcare front, as a new hospital begins to take shape the health of Bermudians will continue to be a priority of this Government. Quite simply, quality care must be affordable. 2011 will see changes in regulatory requirements for health insurers and by 2012 more affordable insurance options will be available to the public. With that reform, and to promote dignity in healthcare, the Health Council will reform the minimum health insurance benefit to ensure it is a 21st Century package for our people.”
