11 Charities to Benefit from End-to-End

December 15, 2010

1EndtoEndpromoThe Bermuda End-to-End Charitable Trust – the island’s largest and perhaps most inclusive charitable organisation –  announced today (Dec. 14) it will support 11 charities with funds raised in the 2011 Catlin End-to-End event, with the emphasis on seniors, young people and those with medical needs.

“At the 2011 event, to be held on Saturday, May 7, our amazing and dedicated 2,500 participants will be walking, cycling or otherwise making their way across Bermuda in the spirit of giving to others,” says End-to-End chair Anne Mello.

“The dollars they raise from pledge money results in up to $300,000 to give to local charities.

“This year, with the economy worsening, we are very aware of the huge challenges faced by those organisations trying to support the community. The charities applying for our support are themselves addressing growing demand for their services while the funds they need to do so are shrinking.“

Mrs. Mello added that while the Catlin End-to-End event normally distributes funds to five or six local charitable organisations, this year the trustees of the Bermuda End-to-End once again decided that smaller grants would be made to more charities.

“We once again are spreading our giving more widely, in the hope that this will help more individuals. Our largest single pledge goes to Meals on Wheels, which feeds seniors across the island. We have also pledged support to four organisations to help young people build life skills; as well as a summer programme for children with special needs. We are supporting families through projects for building school-to-family links. And we are supporting those needing assistance with serious medical conditions by funding three charities.”

“Catlin is once again proud to be the title sponsor of this great community event,” said Graham Pewter, Catlin Insurance Company Ltd. President & CEO. “The charities that the End-to-End will support in 2011 provide critically important services and their efforts deserve our full support”.

The Catlin End-to-End event is organised by the Bermuda End-to-End Charitable Trust’s volunteer board, and is supported by numerous local sponsors and more than 2,500 individual participants. The Catlin End-to-End’s mission is to be Bermuda’s premier annual charitable pledge event and is committed to promoting the happiness and well-being of our Island community through all-inclusive activities.
