Flight & Ferry Cancellations
[Updated] A severe storm across the US East Coast continues to cause flight cancellations, with inbound and outbound Bermuda flights being affected for the fourth consecutive day today [Dec 28].
Flight data shows that Continental flight #1657 arriving from Newark this afternoon, as well as American Airlines flight #1443 departing Bermuda for New York this morning were both cancelled. According to the Wall Street Journal “More than 5,000 U.S. flights affecting tens of thousands of travelers were scrapped over the past three days.”
In addition, local ferry service has been affected, with a Government spokesperson saying “Due to the inclement weather the Sea Express Ferry Services on the Pink and Blue Routes have been cancelled for the day.”
Many many years ago, a member of the then opposition PLP, stood up in the House & in all seriousness, suggested that Bermuda build a second airport at Dockyard, just in case the weather was bad at at the east end.
That second airport might have been handy this past weekend inna?
LOL … remember that well . Except she was talking about those frequent days when the weather is awfull and stormy in St George but lovely in Somerset ! !
(Nothing to do with what the US is getting now though, that ‘worldly vision’ never came into the equation)
It’s nine of us stuck in jersey and we were due to return today. We have been split up to return on 3 different days. Jan 2, 3 and 6th. We get an automated message when we call Continental. My family will try to reach someone at the Continental office in Bermuda tomorrow. It is ridiculous!
It is not rediculous at all. It is weather. It is safety. Would you & over 100 others rather be back in Bermuda but splattered all over the runway?
The ridiculous part is not that our flight was cancelled. It is the fact that we are unable to speak to someone at Continental!!!!
It is the fact that we are unable to speak to someone at Continental!!!!
Yes, you & hundreds of thousands of other Continental passengers affected by this storm. Airlines don’t have huge numbers of people just sitting by call centers in case a major storm like this one happens by in the busiest area of the country on the busiest of weekends in the year.
Sheesh! Wait a bit. The airlines do the best that they can. We want cheap fares? Well we have to put up with the cost of cheap fares & that is reduced service levels.
No, I don’t work for an airline, neither does anyone in my family. But yes, years ago, I did, back in the day when airfares were, comparitively speaking, far more than they are today.
Sorry, self centered people annoy me. We have all seen the people the past few days bitterly complaining that their street has not been ploughed yet. Will they get out with shovels & do it themselves? Not likely.
Here endeth the rant.
Have you honestly never been frustrated by a company putting you on hold for 15 minutes? Does travel not stress you out a little? No need for the rant.
