Guilty Plea: Would-Be Handbag Snatcher

25 year old Tyneko Trott pled guilty in Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning (Dec 2) to two counts of attempted robbery relating to two attempted handbag snatches that occurred in Hamilton around 5pm on Tuesday (Nov 30).

As a result Mr. Trott was remanded into custody by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner for sentencing on February 3rd 2011 pending social inquiry reports.

Two female would-be victims of a refused to let go of their purses and left the Mr Trott to flee empty handed this past Tuesday. A 41-year-old Pembroke woman was walking along Parliament Street around 5:25pm when she was accosted by a Mr Trott who attempted to take her purse. Approximately 15 mins earlier, around 5:10pm that day, a 29-year-old female was also accosted by him, where he also attempted to take her purse.

The Police apprehended him very quickly following the incidents, and Detective Sergeant Dean Martin, one of the investigators on the case stated “This was the result of a good overall team effort from both the uniform officers and the investigative officers in the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit. Mr. Trott was actually arrested by uniform officers for another matter but through diligent police work was identified as the culprit in two recent handbag snatches. After inquiries by the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit he was placed before the court and admitted to committing the offences.”
