KD Da Beast Is On The Money

December 30, 2010

Bermudian rapper K.D. Da Beast  is fast becoming the island’s latest musical phenomenom, with his latest music video gaining thousands of views in the weeks since its release.

Khaalid Lovell, 25, has been writing, composing and recording his own music for three years and while still a rookie performer, he has taken advantage of Twitter, YouTube and other forms of social media to launch his career.

“We first heard about K.D.’s music through Twitter (we admit it – addicted!),” said Style Bermuda in a recent profile. “Although an aquired taste, you can’t deny the potential of his work so far. He may not be for all of you, but we’re 100 per cent you’re going to be downloading him before you know it!” The local lifestyle magazine said K.D’s musical influences include Big Pun, Cannibas and Rakim.

“If we had put a label on his style, we’d say he’s a little East Coast lyrical hip hop with some Bermudian flava — but this is the type of talent that can’t be named,” said the magazine. ” … K.D. is in the ‘progression stage’. He is honing his skills and working on making hit records. He may have started out by performing in the shower (so many of us do) but his defining musical moment was an overwhelming response to his first official track, ‘Do Ya Dance’. In the next five years you may be seeing K.D. signed to a major label or signed with a partnership deal …”

His most recent release is “Fast Money,” which was filmed and directed by one of the island’s top videographers Shawn Simmons of Fotogenik Photography. K.D. Da Beast can be followed on Twitter @Kddabeast
