Kim Swan to Stand At Polls for UBP
Due to the illness of the United Bermuda Party candidate Devrae Noel-Simmons, the Leader of the Opposition Kim.Swan will stand at the polls for him during the by-election at St. Mary’s Church Hall, Warwick today [Dec 15].
Yesterday Mr Noel-Simmons was admitted to hospital, and later released a statement saying “OK well we have the results… I have appendicitis. This means surgery! I am waiting for the surgeon now. Needless to say I am beyond upset and feel at this moment that I have let you all down. Especially with the amount of work that has gone into setting up [this bye-election campaign} and people putting their time and hard work into me. I know that we can still prevail.
This morning Mr Swan said “Devrae is under Dr.’s orders and is recovering from a serious surgery. This was unexpected and we are pleased he was able to get medical attention when he did. He is brave but his health comes first – this was a real scare. The by election is now in the capable hands of the Warwick South Central #26 voters and I will stand at the polls for Devrae.”
The by-election, prompted by the resignation of former Premier Dr Ewart Brown who held the Warwick Parliamentary seat since 1993, will see Former Government Senator Marc Bean as the Progressive Labour Party candidate while Sylvan Richards is representing the Bermuda Democratic Alliance in the party’s first time sending a candidate to the polls. Most pundits are expecting the PLP to maintain the seat in today’s election, with Mr Noel Simmons being seen as a very long shot to win the seat.
Results are expected to come in this evening.
