Two Detained After Failing Alco-analyser Tests
Two men, who were involved in two separate accidents, were detained by Police yesterday [Dec 15] after failing the alco-analyser test.
Around 4:30pm yesterday, there was an accident involving three vehicles [two cars/one bike] at the junction of North Shore Road and Clarke’s Lane in Pembroke.
The drivers of the cars, a 25 year old Smith’s parish woman and a 33 year old Smith’s parish man, were not injured. The motorcycle rider, a 20 year old Hamilton parish man and his passenger, a 20 year old Devonshire man, sustained relatively minor injuries. Both cars were extensively damaged while the motorcycle received moderate damage.
One of the car drivers, the 33 year old man, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and detained after failing the alco-analyser test.
Around one hour later, Police attended a reported damage only road traffic collision on Middle Road in Warwick near the junction with Burnt House Hill involving a jeep and a car. The driver of the jeep, a 29 year old Sandys parish woman and the driver of the car, a 60 year old Sandys parish man, were not injured, however oth vehicles received minor damage.
The driver of the car left the scene and was subsequently arrested by Police at his home on suspicion of impaired driving. He failed the alco-analyser test and was detained as a result.
Inquiries into both incident are underways. The Police also said “With Christmas fast approaching, the Bermuda Police Service remains vigilant and is out patrolling the island’s roads, paying particular attention to impaired driving offences. We continue to urge the motoring public not to drive while under the influence; however if you do intend to partake, please make arrangements for a designated driver or other means of transport to help ensure your safety and the safety of all road users.”
