Honouring Teens Who Make A Difference
Bermuda will be honouring young volunteers who have demonstrated outstanding dedication, creativity and initiative providing service to the community with a new award.
The Centre on Philanthropy is calling on the public to help recognise the work of young Bermudians who have launched innovative projects that address social issues by participating in the nomination process.
Candidates for The Youth Philanthropist of the Year Award should be 19 years-old or younger, and have identified a social issue in Bermuda and created a programme to affect change.
“We feel it is important to recognise the contributions that young people make to improving our community,” says Danielle Riviere, programme manager for The Centre. “It is also an opportunity to engage and encourage those who will lead the charitable sector in the future.”
Four finalists will be invited to attend an award ceremony held during The Centre’s “Changing Our World” Pre-conference Dinner on February 24, 2011. The Youth Philanthropist of the Year winner will receive a $2500 Education Award in addition to a certificate and plaque.
“Changing Our World” is Bermuda’s only third sector conference and will take place at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess on February 25 and 26. It features world renowned speakers from the US, Canada and the UK, and workshops focused on improving the quality of charitable and nonprofit endeavours in Bermuda including; social services, community and faith groups, corporate donors and volunteers.
