US Blizzard Causes More Cancellations

January 11, 2011

441899_landing_ airplaneA severe winter storm buffeting the US East Coast is continuing to cause delays and cancellations for flights in and out of Bermuda.

Delta’s Atlanta-Bermuda flight was cancelled yesterday because of a weekend blizzard which paralysed the US southeast.

Now the massive storm — what’s being called “The Weather Bomb” by some news outlets –  is making its way north and Continental, United and American Airlines have all cancelled tomorrow’s (Jan. 12) flights from New York and Newark to Bermuda.

Forecasters are expecting the storm to drop anywhere from eight to 14 inches of snow on New York City and New Jersey has issued a snow warning to its residents.

Travel chaos is expected to worsen once the storm hits and further cancellations could be announced by other airlines serving Bermuda. Passengers are being advised to call their travel agents or the airlines to reschedule flights. Cancellation and change fees have been waived by most airlines due to the expected snowfall.
