$1.7 Million Drug Case: Canadian Pleads Guilty
Canadian Janet Joan Marie Grant, 47, today [Feb 1] pleaded guilty to importing over a million dollars worth of drugs into Bermuda.
Ms Grant, 47, was arrested after arriving on the island on a WestJet flight from Toronto on October 21, 2010. She was alleged to have been in possession of illegal drugs worth $1.7 million.
The Ontario resident had five charges read to her at this morning’s arraignment session before Chief Justice Richard Ground. All offences occurred on October 21, 2010.
Ms Grant was formally charged with two counts of importing illegal drugs. The first was importation of diamorphine [heroin] and the second was importation of cocaine. Ms Grant pleaded guilty to these two charges.
Ms Grant denied a charge of importing cannabis resin. She was also charged with two counts of possessing with intent to supply, diamorphine and cocaine.
At the request of her lawyer, Chief Justice Ground ordered a social inquiry report and set her next appearance for March 2011. Ms Grant remains in custody.

This is great, but my question is who was she bring the drugs in for. I am sure she did not decide to jump on a plane and head here and hope she could unload the drugs on her own.

No one is trying to protect her identity, at times we just cannot obtain a photo, note the court story after this also doesn’t have photos…..reason being our photog was outside Magistrates today and she was in Supreme. Nothing nefarious, just budget issues and limited staffing as we are still growing. However at least one of the papers has shown her face, and possibly broadcast as well.
Also, the ‘white woman’ reference…Ms Grant isn’t white.
