Auditions for Chewstick Tour to Toronto

February 22, 2011

On Sunday, February 27th, The Chewstick Foundation will be hosting auditions to find Bermuda’s most promising musicians, poets, singers and performers to join them on The Chewstick Foundation’s CHEWronto tour, the second annual international performance tour.

The tour is set to take place in Toronto, Canada on April 20th to the 24th and will feature a three-venue showcase of Bermudian talent. This initiative follows The Chewstick Foundation’s commitment to artist development, providing an unparalleled tour experience and the opportunity to showcase Bermuda talent and culture to an international audience. There are six available spots and interested artists are encouraged to try out.

Chewstick Co-Founder Najib Chentouf states “The Chewronto tour is imperative to give Bermudian artists much needed exposure while at the same time providing gateway cities with a bridge for the arts and tourism”. Auditions will take place in the afternoon of February 27th at The Chewstick Neo-Griot Lounge & Cafe on the corner of Elliott Street and Court Street. Artists who would like to audition should send an email to info@chewstick.org with their name, genre and any other relevant details. An audition time will be confirmed in further correspondence.

Artists are asked to prepare two performance pieces to present on the day, although they may only have the opportunity to perform one. Each piece should be no longer than 5 minutes. Artists can perform to a CD track, with their own instruments or acapella. No other accompaniment will be provided or allowed. The artists for the CHEWronto tour will be selected by a panel of judges consisting of industry experts and artists in the community. They will be judged on performance, presence and professionalism.

Those chosen for the available six performance slots will be announced the week following the auditions and will be required to take part in rehearsals and fundraising performances in preparation for the tour. Also for the first time ever, Chewstick will be taking to the big stage at Ruth Seaton James Performing Arts Centre on April 9 in preparation for the CHEWronto tour.
