OECD Conference To Be Held in Bermuda
Premier and Minister of Finance Paula Cox announced today [Feb 27] that the OECD has officially issued its broadcast email to the Worlds financial center jurisdictions, the full membership of the OECD Global Forum of approximately 97 countries, inviting them to Bermuda for the May 31st to June 1st event.
Premier Cox commenting on the development said: “That the OECD has now issued the official invitation means a lot to both our Tourism and International Business sectors. As we speak the movers and shakers of Global Finance administration, including several leading players in the G20, are booking their Bermuda hotel reservations. They will be googling Bermuda and learning about our jurisdiction, business and tourism infrastructure, before they come.”
The Premier added, “as we are currently going through the Budget Debate I wanted to release this development to the public to emphasize that Bermudians and things Bermudian such as Bermudian entertainment, will benefit from the hosting of this conference in Bermuda. Our signature Bermudian entertainer Mr. Gene Steede and others are in the line-up.”
“The Hotel sector welcomes the extra business and we expect many of the delegates may also find some time in what will be a very intense and busy conference to quickly shop for gifts, eat in restaurants, visit Bermudian vendors and sample Bermudian culture at our Harbour Nights on Front Street, etc. Naturally when they return home they may promote Bermuda Tourism and also affirm to their industry sectors that Bermuda is a leading international financial center.”
Bermuda, in its capacity as a Vice Chair of the Steering Group of the OECD Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes works closely with the OECD. Well over 100 delegates encompassing Senior Government officials, including some Ministers of Government from G20, G8, EU and OECD countries around the World, are expected to visit Bermuda this May 31st when Bermuda hosts the 2011 OECD Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for tax Purposes at the Fairmont Southampton Hotel.” Already the OECD has advised that a number of early registrations to attend the Global Forum have been received.
Woop Di Do
This is only a 2 day conference and all delegates will be in lock down. Chances of spending any cash on this overpriced island are remote beyond belief.
Let’s hope the welcome at Immigration and Customs is not the usual interrogation.
That’s a silly statement.. Who in their right mind would not add 1 or 2 extra days to their around the world trip to Bermuda, and not take back anything or sample dining in our restaurants? And tell 100′s of people how much they enjoyed Bermuda, stop being such a drag!
