Reopening of College’s Tech Education Centre
This afternoon [Feb 3] saw the official opening of the newly renovated Technical Education Centre at the Bermuda College.
The two-year project, undertaken to a large degree by its students, sees new additions of state-of-the-art classrooms and office space to the 15-year old Technical Education Centre, home of the Division of Applied Science & Technology, and was officially opened by Education Minister Dame Jennifer Smith today.
Virtually every area – plumbing technology, welding technology, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, and wood technology – has contributed to the renovated facility. The recently completed renovations signifies that technical education at Bermuda College and in Bermuda is alive and well, said College President Dr. Duranda Greene.

Dame Jennifer’s full remarks are below:
It is a pleasure to be here today to officially open the newly renovated Technical Education Centre at the Bermuda College.
I am particularly pleased because as a community we are beginning to understand the importance of re-training and re-tooling as a catalyst to real economic recovery.
I am also impressed that the Bermuda College, under President Greene and through the leadership of Mr. Llewellyn Trott, has been visionary and proactive in ensuring that not only its technical education training curricula, but also the facilities in which that training occurs, keeps pace with industry standards and requirements.
The fact that students have had the opportunity to put theoretical and practical training to work in just about every aspect of the renovations with such outstanding results, speaks volumes to the quality of instruction provided by the faculty of this Division.
I commend you on your commitment to ensuring that Bermuda’s students are well prepared for internationally recognised certification. I congratulate each and every one of you for a job well done.
You are a testimony to the fact that technical education is alive and well at the Bermuda College. Every day that you enter this Tech Hall you can reflect on your own contribution to its existence and proudly note that you were a contributor.
To Dr. Duranda Greene, members of the executive, management, faculty and staff of the Bermuda College…your continued commitment is making a difference in this community. And we offer our heartfelt gratitude for your work in this arena.
Now on to the ribbon cutting….
About time well done.
