Upcoming: Final Chewstick Songwriting Seminar

February 15, 2011

The Chewstick Foundation will present the final session of its 3-part Seminar Series on Songwriting.

The Chewstick Foundation began a 3-part Song-Writers’ Seminar series in December 2010. Participants ranged in age from fourteen to fifty years old; and had the opportunity to collaborate in ways that may not have been possible otherwise. This last session, will take place on February 20th; participants will be tasked with creating and performing songs in small working groups.

Although this session is intended to build on the knowledge gained in the first two sessions, it will be useful to those who have previously not attended. This session will lead to positive collaborations and a whole new way of exploring one’s art. The Chewstick Foundation website has posted two articles, one on collaboration and the other on the qualities that maximize musical success; these articles are intended to inspire the artist to search for the last piece of the song-writing puzzle.

Richard Bassett, President and Founder of the Bermuda Songwriters’ Association, will host this last session, and share his songwriting experiences and really delve deeply into an active song-writing “think tank” scenario. Part III will have participants interact with other artists and explore their creativity outside of their comfort zone and usual genre. This is an opportunity to encourage the synthesis of a song from start to finish. Songwriter’s of all ages can benefit specifically from this last seminar as it will include a summary of useful information from the previous two and will immediately put it into practice.

The past two sessions have seen a broad range of ages, interests and talent come through. As valuable as the information in the session is, it is nothing compared to the breadth of interactivity and synergies created following each lecture. The only requirement for attendance is an open-mind and a willingness to participate. It would be particularly useful if participants can bring instruments along as this will aid in cultivating a subsequent performance of the songs. No Songwriting skills or vocal skills necessary. Part III: “Songwriting Working Session” will take place this Sunday, February 20th, 2011 from 3 – 5 pm.
