Accident Victim Named As Vershon Simmons
The young man who tragically lost his life in a road traffic accident last night [Mar.5] has been officially named as Vershon Simmons.
A Police spokesman said, “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 18 year old Vershon Simmons of Pembroke.”
“Around 9:30pm Saturday, March 5th 2011 Mr. Simmons was riding a motorcycle which was involved in a collision with a car on Harbour Road in Paget near the junction with Cobbs Hill Road. He was seriously injured and rushed to hospital via ambulance; however he later succumbed to his injuries. The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Simmons.”
“The investigation into this fatal collision is ongoing and any witnesses or anyone with any information is encouraged to contact PC Steven Darrell of the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011. The death of Vershon Simmons marks the 1st road fatality for 2011.”
Within hours of the former Bermuda Institute student’s untimely death, friends of the teenager started to flood his Facebook wall with tributes,”Bermuda had a huge loss today. No one is going to argue with that. You had a great sense of humor and one of the most level heads out of everyone I know,” said one friend. “You may be gone but you certainly will not be forgotten. Untill we meet again Rest in Peace Big Mon,” said another.
The young man was an avid and skilled sailor; this morning a post was made on the Spirt of Bermuda’s Facebook page saying, “It is with tremendous grief that the SPIRIT community shares the shocking news that Watch Leader Vershon Simmons (18) was killed last night in a bike accident in Bermuda.” A few of his friends have mentioned that this is the second loss for the ‘Spirit Family’, following the death of 22-year-old mariner Adam Goodwin in October of last year.
Bernews extends our sincere sympathies to Mr Simmons’ family and friends.

What a horrible loss, Vershon you will be missed, but will not be forgotten. My most sincere condolences go out to all family and friends. We will sail together again one day.
this kid was in my daughters class at BI a few years ago. she only had good things to say about him. why it seems that the good kids are cut short, while others that do crazy badness seem to dodge death…..not fair at all
My condolences to the family. My son also sailed with Vershon. May God comfort you at this time.
Even though I didnt know him personally … he sailed with my little brother on the “SPIRIT” as my little brother is still in shock, he has nothing but good things to say about him… My deepest condolence to his family and friends… May he R.I.P (( Rest in Paradise ))
