The Bermuda’s Boy’s sealed a 5th place finish with a victory over Guatemala. Chris Rego and Courtland Boyle recorded victories with singles wins over Jose Ponsa and Javier Castillo respectively.

Boyle had to go three sets winning 6 – 3, 4 – 6, 6 – 3, while Rego had a tough two setter with Javier to clinch the tie 6 – 3, 7 – 5. Hoping for a sweep of the three matches the Boyle cousins could not quite do it, they went down 6 – 4, 6 – 3.

Over on court 11, the Bermuda Girls took on Panama. Two more three setters ensued. Taylor Mcharg with her usual slow start came from behind to close out a very feisty Victiora Sherry, 2 – 6, 6 – 4, 6 – 3. Eva Frazzoni was next to take on a vastly improved Maria Isabela Peralta, a player the Bermuda team played in the 2010 event in Trinidad and Tobago. Frazonni had to dig deep into her reserves for a second singles running. This time she was successful in holding off her opponent by a score of 6 – 1, 5 – 7, 6 – 1. In the doubles, the sweep was completed by the combo of Frazonni and Christina Joynes over Panama’s Victoria Sherry and Daniela Diez 6 – 2, 6 – 1. With the final victory the Bermuda girls finish in 11th place.

There were 21 Boys teams and 14 Girls teams in this year’s event. The overall winners of this pre qualifier were the host, Dominican Republic for the boys and Cuba for the girls. They have earned a trip to play in the final qualifying to take place in late April, in Mexico
