Local Artist Otto Trott: “Motifs of Place” Show
The Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art will be hosting a new ‘Artists in the Gardens’ show opening this Friday [Apr.1] entitled “Motifs of Place” by local artist Otto Trott.
Mr Trott has had many exhibits with Masterworks, and for this one he has tried to highlight sights that are easily recognisable as being found in Bermuda. Scenes of a fisherman throwing chum off a dock, boats moored at the docks, a roofer at work – all perfectly captured moments of life in Bermuda, or “Motifs in Place” as he has called it.
As well as scenes of people at work, he has included Bermuda’s vegetation with some garden scenes full of flowers. Mr Trott also likes to compare and contrast objects and surfaces and so in some of his works you’ll see organic shapes next to geometric shapes when foliage is shown against architecture. He also says, “I am fascinated with the shadows leaves make against a wall or on the ground. Old, rough, weathered surfaces come to life next the smooth surface of water which can shine and reflect.”
“I hope my paintings reflect how grateful I am to be surrounded by Beautiful Bermuda. It is easy to take our environment or people for granted. I esteem both and I have tried to show it with the work in “Motifs of Place.”
The show opens on Friday, April 1st, 5:30pm – 7pm and will run until April 27th. Artwork is for sale. Museum hours are Monday – Saturday, 10am – 4pm. For more information please contact Julie Butler or Kate Waters on 236-2950.
