BIFFlixs To Screen “The Housemaid”
Bermuda International Film Festival [BIFF] is back to fill the void in your social life since the film festival ended last month, announcing the next film in its monthly film series, BIFFlixs, will be “The Housemaid.”
A favorite at this year’s Cannes, Toronto and Fantastic Fest film festivals, The Housemaid is a stylish, sexy thriller about an innocent young woman caught in the twisted web of a rich family’s games. This film is a remake by director Im Sang-soo of a classic 50-year-old Korean thriller.
Eun-yi [Cannes Best Actress winner Jeon Do-youn of Secret Sunshine] is an innocent young woman, who is hired as an upper class family housemaid, and is tasked to take care of the family’s small daughter and her pregnant mother, Hae-ra. Eu Byung-sik is an older housemaid who has been with this family for a long time and holds many secrets.
But soon enough, the master of the house, Hoon, takes advantage of his social position by slipping into the new housemaid’s bed. Hoon’s visits become frequent and Byung-sik reports the affair to Hae-ra’s mother Mi-hee, who plots to give Hae-ra the control over her husband. Eun-yi becomes the unwitting victim in a series of traps laid by the women of the house. Eun-yi’s already fragile mental condition takes a turn for the worse and she decides to take the matter into her own hands.
Intensely erotic and fiendishly entertaining, The Housemaid builds to an unforgettable climax as Eun-yi must outwit them and escape their schemes to protect her sanity—and her life—from the vicious family.
