April 10, 2011

[Updated with video] North Village Rams are the 2010/11 Friendship Trophy Champions after beating Devonshire Cougars 3-1 this afternoon [Apr.10].

Roydelle Robinson, the mother of murdered North Village player Randy Robinson, is pictured below with the trophy after the game. The game started with a moment of silence in honour of the 22-year-old footballer who was shot dead last month on Border Lane. Mr Robinson, a skilled footballer, was a member of North Village’s team, and a former player for Devonshire Cougars.

The North Village Rams took the lead in the 30th minute, when Tyrell Burgess’ shot beat Ricardo Brangman in goal for the Devonshire Cougars.

Neither team could find the net for the remainder of the half, so North Village Rams lead the Devonshire Cougars 1 – 0 going into half time. In the 54th minute Jason Lee came close to doubling the lead but his lob went just wide. In the 78th minute Ralph Bean Jr. doubled the lead when his shot from the edge of the box found the back of the net.

Three minutes later Kwame Steede pulled a goal back for the Devonshire Cougars when he scored from close range after a corner, but in the 86th minute Bean Jr. scored again. With only minutes remaining on the clock Mark Smith came close to pulling a goal back for the Devonshire Cougars but his shot went just wide. The game before the Friendship Final saw Hamilton Parish beat Wolves 2-1 in overtime to claim the 2010/11 Shield Championship.
