St. Georges Dancerettes Give Back

This year is the Original St. Georges Dancerettes 20th Anniversary, so to celebrate that they say they are doing “everything big.” In late 2009 the committee decided that when raising funds, they should have at least one event where they are giving back to the community. Last year they did a trashathon alongside the KBB in the East End.

Last month, the young ladies of the Original St. Georges Dancerettes partook in their Annual Fundraiser. This year the Dancerettes decided they would give back to the community’ by showing gratitude and appreciation for our Senior Citizens.

This year they visited KEMH, with one of the organisers saying, “Going into KEMH seemed like the best opportunity for these young ladies to learn life’s lesson of gratitude. They cleaned wheelchairs, read to the patients, played games, colored and did puzzles, took them for walks; you would never believe the fun our girls had, with some asking to stay a little longer. We would like to thank Ms. Capri Smith, Dianne Caisey and KEMH Continuing Care Unit Staff for affording us this opportunity.”

“This year we tried to think of something that would provide the girls with a little more knowledge and experience; something that they could work for and get a ‘reality-check’. We all need a little appreciation, but for our youth though, how can they learn to appreciate if we do not teach them.”

“This event has given them the ultimate classroom. With all that is going on in our society today, one of the lessons our youth seem to have missed is gratitude. Gratitude to our ancestors, and their history.”

“As part of the St Georges Dancerettes, we encourage each other to be positive influences on our peers, school works is of utmost importance, manners, following rules, respect for self and others and basic positivity is part of our foundation; only after these, do we dance!”
