Volleyball: Bermuda Ladies Win First Two Games
[Updated with videos] The Bermuda National Womens Volleyball team has started off with a bang in the 2011 Bermuda Open, winning their first two games last night [Apr.7], besting two teams from New York.
Some of the island’s top volleyball players are facing off against opposition from Toronto & New York in the 2011 Bermuda Open, which started yesterday evening, and continues till tomorrow.
The Bermuda Women’s National Team won their first two games in straight sets, they first defeated Got Gym out of new York 25 – 12, 25 – 18. They then defeated Downstate New York 25 – 19, 25 – 23.
In other women’s action TKO Toronto defeated Downstate New York 25-18, 25-14, TKO Toronto also defeated local team Lobster Pot 25-9, 25-16.
Round robin competition is taking place at Warwick Academy & Mount St. Agnes. All play-off matches, including gold & bronze medal matches, will be at MSA on Saturday afternoon, admission is free and the community is encourages to come out and support our local side.
The Playoff matches that will be held at MSA Gym, Saturday, April 9th are:
- 11:00 am Men’s Bronze Medal
- 12:30 pm Bermuda Junior Women’s National Team Exhibition Match
- 1:30 pm Women’s Bronze Medal
- 3:00 pm Men’s Gold Medal Match
- 5:00 pm Women’s Gold Medal Match
- Prize presentation to immediately follow, and MVP’s to be awarded for both men’s & women’s division
The Bermuda Volleyball Association is presenting the Bermuda Open 2011, which sponsored by the Bermuda Department of Tourism, and Corona, Fiji & the Fairmont Southampton. Bermuda’s Men’s & Women’s National Teams will be using this event as preparation for the NatWest Island Games in the Isle of Wight in June. The Tournament will also feature the Junior Women’s & Men’s National Teams who are preparing for the Junior Eastern Caribbean Championships in June in French St. Martin, and July in Anguilla.
