‘Stand Up Bermuda’ Launches Website
Newly formed anti-violence group ‘Stand Up Bermuda’ has just launched their new website. The group says, “Since 2009 there have been 16 gun related deaths in Bermuda, 5 have taken place this year alone. The island is in a State of Emergency and needs change to happen and happen now.”
“It’s not enough to just want change in order for it to happen we have to come together as a people, identify the issues, strategize and plan for implementation of change and then we have to act. None of this can happen if we are sitting down, we must stand up for what’s right or fall for all things wrong!”
The newly formed organisation seeks to work in a community based manner to help stem the rising crime. Members of the committee include Jahma Gibbons, Gaynell Hayward, Jeff Sousa, Shawnette Sommer, Ray Charlton, Deb Lewnondowski, Juanita Leshore, Channing Seymour, Alexis Swan, Antonio Belvedere, and Scott Smith.
The group is calling on the community to join them on June 26th for the ‘Stand Up For Change Peace Rally.’ The even will see two groups marching from both Dockyard and St.George’s starting from 12 noon. The march will end at City Hall, where the group will be addressing the Government, listening to motivational speakers as well as anti-violence themed music from local artists.
…and then what?
So Joe with a comment like that I assume you are doing something yourself to make a change on this island. Yes?
