Police Investigating Death Of Denise Evans
[Updated with videos] Police confirmed this morning [May 3] that the body found in the water last week was that of 45-year-old Denise Evans Wilkinson of Pembroke parish.
The Police have not officially classified it as a murder as such at this time, but they are investigating the case as a suspicious death and treating it as a murder investigation.
Superintendent Antoine Daniels said “the death was not a natural death, and from the findings of the autopsy it appears that death was aided by someone else.” He said there were actually two causes of death, but declined to go into specifics.
This past Friday afternoon [Apr.29], Police responded to a report of a body in the waters off the Mill Point Road, Pembroke. At that time, Assistant Commissioner David Mirfield said they were not sure how long her body has been in the water.
Senior detectives were seen at the scene on Friday afternoon, and residents of the nearby area have told Bernews the Police have been canvassing the area over the weekend, asking residents if they have seen anything strange or unusual over the past few days.
When asked about the matter at yesterday’s press conference, National Security Minister Wayne Perinchief said said it “would appear she may have been a person at risk,” and that the Police are “onto a certain line of investigation.”
Bernews extends our condolences to Ms Evan’s family and friends.
Update 11:57am: Video statement from Superintendent Antoine Daniels below. Mr Daniels said a forensic examination was conducted by a pathologist from overseas, and as a result of his findings Ms Evan’s death has been labeled a “suspicious death.” They have appealed for anyone who may have any information to please contact the Police on 295-0011.

On behalf of the Bermuda Police Service, I wish to express sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Miss Evans.
The brief circumstances of this case are that at 2pm on Friday 29th April 2011, Police received a report of what witnesses described as an unresponsive woman floating in the waters near Mills Creek.

Is this the lady that works at the Consulate?
Not to our knowledge….
I thought the same thing, almost fell out of my chair. I don’t think it’s her though.
No she does not work there
No this is NOT the lady that works at the consulate
is her last name Evans as in the title or Wilkinson as in the police report?
Her name as provided by the Police is Denise Evans Wilkinson, but she was also known as Denise Evans.
We have official clarification now, Denise Evans is her maiden name…
She is From the Block..
rip aunt denise. you will be truly missed
I hope it’s not the the same Denise from the Consulate, she was one of the decent ones up there, the others treat you like criminals.
it’s isnt
no it’s isn’t…….R.I.P. Denise……Evans fam keep your heads up….know that you are in peoples prayers……
Sorry for the lack of photo, we are trying to obtain one and have not been successful as of yet, but in the meantime for those trying to place her, she was a slim lady, had grown children, and some of her family comes from the Curving Avenue area, and we believe that she had sisters who predeceased her. We used to chat to her sometimes when we were in the Court Street area, always found her very pleasant. Our sympathies to her family and friends….
Hello everyone, this is Denyse Evans, who works at the US Consulate, thanks for your concern I am ok
the other Denise was my husband’s cousin, R.I.P Cuz
For the avoidance of doubt, this is the “real” Denyse Evans above, we just spoke with her…
Yayy!! Glad your ok, I almost had a Fit!! I will FB you to let you know who this is : ) I was sure it wasn’t you because of the spelling of the name, but you never know. Nonetheless, my condolences to this ladies Family – sad.
Funny how humanity is. It’s like “I hope it’s not my Denise but someone else’s Denise”. Kind of sad and funny at the same time. May God have both Denises in his heart.
@ United , this is the other Denyse, I understand what you are saying at first I didn’t want to respond because i did not want to seem insenstive, but my phone was ringing off the hook so I needed to clarify that it was not me (Denyse) The other Denise was a family member so regardless we are still dealing with this tragedy.
You have my condolences. May God and close family and friends comfort you and your family in your time of sorrow.
But you did get my drift right? And I apologize if I came across as insensitive.
How can there be TWO causes of death???
Two things may have contributed to her demise but only ONE thing can be the actual thing that killed her. Like you can shoot someone and then dump them in the water while they were still alive…technically the drowning would be the cause of death and not the shooting because if the person got help for the shooting they may have survived. So you can’t say the shooting and the drowning were the cause of death.
The way the Police word things sounds so ridiculous sometimes.
Not true at all.
RIP Denise. Despite the ra ra lifestyle she was a cool chick. Hope the popo catch whoeever might have did this to her
