Photos: Southampton Rangers Win BELCO Cup
Southampton Rangers beat PHC to win the 2011 BELCO Cup today [May 15], taking back a trophy they held for over five consecutive years up to 2010.
The two teams also met up in the finals last year, with PHC walking away with the win over Rangers. At the prize giving Southampton Rangers President joked that PHC had to “pay rent” since they were “tenants” as that Rangers will be back to collect the Cup later on, a promise which the team kept today.
Defending champions PHC batted first and were bowled all out for 190. Kamau Leverock picked up where he left off yesterday scoring 49 for PHC, while Chris Foggo scored 26/ Man of the Match Janeiro Tucker had bowling figures of 10-2-37-3 for Southampton Rangers, while Dion Stovell chipped in with figures of 10-0-33-2.
In reply Southampton Rangers were on 182/8 with 4 overs remaining, however PHC was penalized for a slow bowling rate and Southampton Rangers was awarded the winning runs thus gaining revenge over PHC after losing last year.
Tucker was the top scorer for Southampton Rangers with 81 not out, while Stovell added 48. Charles Swan was the pick of the PHC bowlers with figures of 7-1-33-3, while Cal Waldron had figures of 10-0-28-2. Waldron came close to recording a hat-trick only to be denied when the umpire turned down a caught behind decision.
Southampton Rangers and PHC met in the finals, after besting Willow Cuts and Bailey’s Bay in the semi finals held yesterday. Final scores Willow Cuts 226 Southampton Rangers 229/3 and PHC 289/6 Bailey’s Bay 91.

Each year, the Bermuda Cricket Board, BELCO and St. David’s County Cricket Club team-up to donate proceeds from the final to a charity. ‘Cornerstone Foundation’ was chosen as the 2011 recipient of all entry fees and any additional donations that fans may wish to make.
‘Cornerstone Foundation’ helps to improve the living conditions, education and quality of life for young children, teenagers and adults. The President of the Umpire’s Association, Mr. Walisford Manders has announced that the Umpire’s will also donate their fee to ‘Cornerstone Foundation’.
