2011 Tourism Ambassador Programme
This year there are 14 Senior Ambassadors and 11 Junior Ambassadors participating in the Tourism Ambassador Programme.
Minister of Business Development and Tourism Patrice Minors said, “While this is the fourth year that we’ve had the Ambassador Programme, this is the second year that we’ve added the senior component to the mix.
“And I’m pleased to say that having some of our most knowledgeable Bermudians involved in the programme proved to be a resounding success in 2010.
“So today I’m pleased to announce the continuation of this initiative, and publicly recognise those who will be travelling about the Island and sharing their knowledge of Bermuda with our visitors.”
Minister Minors is pictured outside of Camden with this year’s Bermuda Department of Tourism Junior and Senior Tourism Ambassadors:
“Quite simply, the Tourism Ambassador Programme, involves university students interested in the hospitality industry serving as tourist information liaisons to visitors for a 10 week period.
“The programme, also includes some of our seniors also taking on the role of tourism ambassadors. Once again this summer our younger and older generations will work side by side in high traffic areas in Dockyard, Hamilton and St. George’s to ensure that visitors to our Island have a unique and enjoyable experience.
“They will provide on the ground assistance to our cruise ship visitors, share with them information on Bermuda’s sights, attractions, culture, history and restaurants, and promote the many things to see and do on the island.
“In addition to providing information and assisting visitors on the ferries, this year’s Junior Ambassadors will have an opportunity to shadow in different sections within the Tourism Department and will be involved with the event marketing and promotion of BDOT’s Bermuda Nights and several Sizzling Summer activities and events.
“As we go into the heart of our tourism season, these Ambassadors will continue to showcase Bermudian hospitality and go the extra mile to ensure that our visitors have a positive and memorable experience while on our shores,” said the Minister.
