40 Arrests: Outstanding Warrants & DUI
Police have reported that this past weekend [July 9/10] 40 people were arrested for either suspicion of drunk driving or outstanding warrants.
A Police spokesman said, “Over the weekend there were 2 people arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. Police officers also arrested 38 people for outstanding warrants and conducted 16 liquor license checks at various liquor licensed premises throughout the island.”
Please clarify. Were the 40 arrested persons required to have their fingerprints taken, and to provide DNA specimens?
Well Done BPS!!! Keep up the good work!
the fact that 40 people actually got caught is mind blowing. Imagine how many more were driving around drunk who didn’t!
Only 2 were arrested for impaired driving, the rest on outstanding warrants… which as I understand could be for unpaid parking tickets or traffic fines!
Can anyone here comprehend being arrested for a parking ticket? Suppose your child drove your car, got a ticket and never paid it? Is this what we want? In my opinion…..ridiculous! BPS should be ashamed for doing so.
I think the blame should go on Magistrates court! It is the courts job to inform you there is a warrant – they NO LONGER DO THIS, as the ticket is considered the Warrant!!! SO the police are just checking the system….The court is not informing people that they have warrants!
@Mama Mia,
Only 2 were arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.
Unfortunately, this has put the police in a bad light. I do not see the sense of arresting someone for a $50 ticket. The Police are arresting people who have paid their tickets. How many of these arrests are innocent people? How many people are being unlawfully detained? This will only create distrust in an already crumbling situation!!!!!
40 is not a lot compared to the hundreds that get stopped every weekend. i have been stopped and released 5 times in the last 4 months, harassing the public is not good police work.
Too bad they didn’t pull over and arrest BERMYSHOTTA riding in his mothers car with all the stuff he had just stole. SMH! Real criminal low lives like him need to be pulled over and arrested.
