Bermuda Pacers Head To North Carolina Meet

Thirty–five members of the Bermuda Pacers Track club flew out of the Island today [July 20] to make their thirtieth appearance at the prestigious Russell E. Blunt /East Coact Invitational Track Meet that will be held at Duke University in Raleigh, NC.

The meet will start on Friday, July 22, 2011 and conclude on Sunday 24, 2011. This event normally attracts about 2,500 athletes across the Eastcoast.

The team will consist of 18 Female athletes, led by Carifta Bronze medalist Kyrah Scraders. Scraders will be competing in the 13-14 Girls 800 and 1500 metres. Also competing in the same age group are Jordan Bascome, Azaire Smith, Quaashie Douglas, Zakiyyah Showers, Jamie Darrell, Aaliyah Nolan, and Jahtia Smith.

Travelling to the meet for the first time and competing in the 9-10 Girls are Zekiah Lewis, Mikaela Outerbridge and One’Hart. These three athletes will be competing in the 100,200,400 and Long jump.

Competing in the 11-12 Girls Age Group are Anasia Barclay, Demiqua Daniels, Syriah Lottimore, Zariah Simmons and Zahra Wilson. Barclay, Daniels, Lottimore and Simmons will compete in the 100, 200 and 400 metres, While Wilson will be making her first appearance competing in the 400 and 800 metres.

The other two female athletes competing in the Girls Division are Rachel Fox who will be competing in the 15-16 Girls 400, 800 and long jump and Deesa Booth who will compete in the 17-18 Girls Shot Put.

The Boys pacers team will consist of 16 athletes lead by Carifta athletes Jumar Mouchette, Tyrone Oswald, Kyle Webb, medalist Justin Donawa, Kidane Callendar, Karim Creary, and Jaguan Hatherly.

Oswald and Mouchette will compete in the 17-18 Boys Age Group, while Donama, Webb, Creary and Hatherly will compete in the 15-16 boys age group.

David Darrell will be competing in the 13-14 Boys Age Group in the 400 and 800 metres.

Bronze medalist from last year event Rahzir Jones we lead the 11-12 Boys Age Group along with new comers Elisha Darrell and Aaron Jacobs. Returning to the event will be Sean Tucker. These four young athletes will compete in the 200, 400, 800 metres, High Jump and Mini Javelin.

In the 9-10 Boys Division, Sajan Harvey will lead group while new comer Ryan Outerbridge will make his first appearance. Both boys will compete in the 200 and 400 metres.

The youngest members of the team are Eze Hart and Diarra Powell- Burgress. These two young athletes will compete in the 8 an under boys age group. Eze will compete in the 800 and 1500 metres, while Diarra will compete in the 100, 200 and long jump.

In total the team will compete in 79 individual event and 3 relays. Accompanying the team are Pacers Executive members, parents and coaches.
