Golf: Jones & Augustus Off To Venezuela

Nick Jones and Daniel Augustus have been given the honor to represent Bermuda at the World Cup Qualifier to be held in Caracas, Venezuela from September 19th – 25th.

The rules of the World Cup are clear. If an Association has a “World Ranked” player then that player must be selected. Should the Association not have another “Ranked” player, then the “World Ranked” player may select his partner for the qualifier. This has been the case in the past as Michael Sims is on the official World Rankings.

Michael Sims has declined to play due to his commitments on the Nationwide Tour. As a result, the PGA Selection Committee had the unusual opportunity to choose players for the World Cup Qualifier.

A spokesperson said, “The Committee spent hours in deliberating their decision, a decision not taken lightly. They reviewed all possible scenarios and decided the Association must move forward, allowing younger members to have an opportunity.”

“The Committee felt that Jones and Augustus have similar games and would be an excellent fit to see Bermuda through to the final, which is scheduled for November in Mission Hills, China. ”

Bermuda PGA President, Brian Morris commented, “Regardless of the outcome, the Association is excited and proud to provide this opportunity and exposure to two of Bermuda’s up and coming young professional players
