Local Baseball Team Win Again In U.S.
[Updated] Bermuda’s YAO U12 Baseball All-Stars have won another game at the New England Region Baseball Tournament. They beat the Marlborough All Star team, with Ben Cook leading the way, going 2 for 3 with a couple of rocket hits.
The Bermuda Team consists of Mateo Donawa, Christopher Ricca, Mateo Rodriguez, Andrew Daly, Dylan Sommerville, Joshua Allen, Ben Cook, Joey Dougherty, Corey Simas, and Max Betetto, while the coaches are Andrew Cook, Chris Dougherty, Mike Daly and Donovan Stubbs.
A team spokesperson said, “In order to continue our player development and exposure to top level baseball, we were able to organize a friendly game against another local all-star team. In an effort to conserve our arms, we did not use our own pitchers, but “borrowed” some from the Marlborough team.
Our bats came back to life for this game. Once again, the pitching was at a high level, but the guys were up to the challenge. We came out strong in the first inning. Donovan Stubbs led off with a walk, followed by a Josh Allen single. Joey got the team on the board with a single, driving in Stubbs and Allen.”
“Dylan Sommerville continued his strong tournament, driving in the third run of the inning, hitting a two out double. Marlborough was up to the challenge, and scored two runs in their half of the first on solid hitting. Score was 3-2 at the end of 1 inning.”
“We added a run each in the second and third innings, with Mateo Donawa scoring on a heads up play from third. In the third, Ben Cook hit a two out double and scored on a Corey Simas RBI single.”
“Our defense held firm through the middle innings, with solid glove play by all. Mateo Rodriguez got untracked and hit his first of two singles in the 4th, with Chris Ricca adding a single of his own in the fourth.”
“In the fifth inning Josh Allen walked and ended up scoring on another Ben Cook RBI single. At the end of five innings, Bermuda led 5-2. In the top of the sixth inning, we scored what would turn out to be a very important run. Max Betetto led off with a walk, advanced on another Mateo Rodriguez single, and then scored on a key Mateo Donawa RBI single.”
“In the bottom of the sixth, Marlborough scored three runs to make the score 6-5. We made some sloppy plays in the field, but Dylan Sommerville saved the game with a strong game ending play at third base.
“It was again a great effort from our guys against a team that appeared physically stronger than them. Player of the game goes to Ben Cook.”
So far in the tournament, the Bermuda team is 2-1, having won two games, and lost one.
Well done guys! Congratulations!!!
Good job fellas. Keep it up!!
