Three Local Sailors Compete In Texas

DSC_0009[1]The 2011 USODA National Championships hosted by the Houston Yacht Club finished this past weekend with a total of twelve races sailed in the regatta.

Bermuda Optimist Dinghy Association sailors Ceci and Mikey Wollamann and Chase Cooper carried the flag for Bermuda in Texas.

The fleet of 210 sailors were divided into Gold, Silver and Broze fleets following the 6th race of the event, with all 3 locals qualifying for the Gold Fleet.

Wind conditions varied from 5 knots to over 20 knots. Ceci Wollmann was the top Bermudian finishing in 25th place followed by her brother Mikey in 44th place, while Cooper finished in the 64th position.

Overall winner of the event was Leonard Takahashi-Fry from New Zealand. The runner up was Wade Waddell, claiming the US National Champion title as the first American finisher in the regatta. The next major event is the New England Championships which will be sailed in Marion, Massachusetts this weekend.
