Nelsalene LeSpere Wins ‘Voice Of Bermuda’
Bermudian teacher Nelsalene LeSpere has won $1,000 after being selected as the ‘Voice of Bermuda’ following the Bermuda Department of Tourism’s open casting call to find a uniquely special voice which would be featured on Bermuda’s North American promotional campaign.
Minister of Business Development and Tourism Patrice Minors said, “Her distinctly Bermudian voice is crisp and fun and we believe it will be a part of the driving force of bringing visitors to the Island.”
Pictured below: Minister Minors presents a cheque for $1,000 to Mrs. Nelsalene LeSpere. Also in the photo is Tourism Director William Griffith and Mrs. Nesalene’s husband, Gerard LeSpere and their daughter Naarah LeSpere.
Minister Minors said, “I want to pause here and thank each and every person who responded to our casting call. And I want to advise those 30 individuals who recorded later in the week that their voices will be taken into consideration for future BDOT promotions.”
“However of the overall number of recorded voices which met our deadline, we narrowed it down to one individual. And today I am pleased to announce the winning contestant – Mrs. Nelsalene LeSpere.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, it was a unanimous decision, and we are absolutely delighted with our choice of Mrs. LeSpere. Her distinctly Bermudian voice is crisp and fun and we believe it will be a part of the driving force of bringing visitors to the Island.”
“In fact, I am told that Mrs. LeSpere, who teaches in our public school system, has a dream to become the voice of a ‘cartoon character’, and when her husband encouraged her to audition for the casting call, she knew it would help her to get one step closer to her dream.”
“So we are thrilled that she took the leap of faith and auditioned for the Voice of Bermuda. And for her efforts, I am pleased to present Mrs. LeSpere with a cheque for $1,000 for the three recordings she will be doing for our television spots.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, you have often heard me say that it was a critical goal of this Ministry to inject that uniquely Bermuda flavour back into our tourism product.”
“Things that this Island is recognised for — our culture, our pristine beauty, our hospitable and friendly nature, our music and entertainment, our sporting traditions and our cuisine which can be found nowhere else in the world — are featuring heavily in our local and overseas promotions.”
“We believe special nuances like these will distinguish us from our competition. The addition of Mrs. LeSpere is a fine fit in our overall efforts,” noted the Minister.
A television ad featuring Mrs. LeSpere’s voice is below:
“However just to offer you a bit of background on the campaign, the television ads are aimed at enticing visitors to the Island by highlighting Bermuda’s signature visitor attractions, like its golf, beach and spa products.”
“This current campaign will run from now through August 14, in Boston, Washington DC, Philadelphia and New York. The promos will air various times and can also be seen on local cable on the affiliate networks. The spots will also be featured on our FaceBook page, our YouTube page and our gotobermuda.com website,” concluded Minister Minors.
Go Nelsey!!
She definitely is the right voice for the job. The only thing wrong with that ad is the computer generated graphics. When you’re selling our natural beauty you should use the real thing, not a computer or even human generated rendering.
Congrats Nelsy!
Congratulations Nelsalene, I am so proud of you. Indeed this is the beginning of many more blessings.
Woohoooo! Congratulations Lesperes! Awesome.
Go Nels!!!
While the lady has a nice voice, the visual part of the ad itself is an insult to the natural beauty of Bermuda. I agree wholeheartedly with YES MATE! above.
This CGI effort is dated and extremely tacky.
Who agreed to it, and please tell me it did not cost a lot of money?
The footage used to advertise the Tucker’s Point fractional units is 1 million times better than this. Could the producers not have negotiated for some of that gorgeous aerial footage???
If this is the actual ad used on US TV I’m afraid the dark days of declining tourism are going to continue…
What a waste : (
