Somerset Win Mini Cup Match by 47 Runs

In what could be taken as a good omen by some locals who are fans of the red/blue, Somerset won the 2011 Mini Cup Match this afternoon [July 21], which was hosted by the Department of Youth and Sports at the Devonshire Recreation Club.

The defending champions St. George’s won the toss and invited Somerset to bat, they scored 147/8 in their allotted 25 overs. Cory Burgess was their top scorer with 33 before he retired, while Tyree Robinson added 20, Edry Moore chipped in with 12 and Jabari Darrell scored 10 runs. Sancho Jackson had bowling figures of 2.0-0-11-2, while Jinairo Johnson bowled 5.0-0-20-2 and Deandre Ball returned figures of 5.0-0-21-2.

In reply St. George’s managed 100 runs as they fell 47 runs short of their target, Jahseiko Martin was their top scorer with 11, while Jinairo Johnson chipped in with 7. Cory Burgess led the Somerset bowling attack with figures of 4.0-0-30-3, while Kiwon Waldron had figures of 4.0-1-13-2. Final score: Somerset 147/8 St. George’s 100

    I just wish people would remember the meaning of cup match, we have seem to have lost the reason it came to this. Too commercial now.And I’ m a little disturb by Clay Smith saying that it should be 3 day Remember the reason how this all started I will talk to you on Saturday SOMERSET!!!
