Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Clean Up Day
In conjunction with Keep Bermuda Beautiful, the Bermuda Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority organized a community initiative to do an area-clean up of the North East Hamilton Economic Empowerment Zone.
Over 40 participants met at the Economic Empowerment Zone Agency on Union Street on Saturday, July 9th, eager to get to work on cleaning up the environment.
The Keep Bermuda Beautiful mission is to engage individuals to take greater responsibility in reducing waste and eliminating litter through action and education.
Ms. Anne Hyde, Executive President of Keep Bermuda Beautiful, gave the volunteers a brief overview of how different types of waste affects the Earth and how various methods, such as recycling and composting have long-term benefits for preserving a healthy environment.
Armed with gloves, blue recycling bags and black trash bags for other waste items, the volunteers ventured out into the North East Hamilton area ready to keep Bermuda beautiful.
Bermuda Alumnae Chapter President Roxanne Christopher said, “The Bermuda Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., are committed to partnering with other service organizations such as Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, as uplifting our local neighborhoods are essential to our core values.”
“North East Hamilton is a true gem and we are committed to being a partner in the revitalization of one of our countries most historical communities. We must all commit to playing a vital role in the success of every community across our island. Any change begins with each and every one of us as we pay it forward to reclaim our neighborhoods.”
