Survey On Business Relationships In Bermuda
Bermudian Carol Ann Simmons is completing an MBA at the University of Exeter in the UK and she is conducting a survey on leadership in Bermuda’s interconnected society as research for a dissertation.
The survey is for anyone who is at the middle or senior management level in Bermuda; and the research examines the effect of influential relationships held by subordinate and/or junior employees outside of the workplace on the management practices and leadership behaviour of managers in Bermuda.
The survey says, “It is recognised that working within a small island like Bermuda presents special circumstances because lives are unavoidably intertwined with many residents being related to each other; knowing each other personally, through their non-working activities; or they have grown up in great proximity to each other.”
“These relationships create a rather distinct level of familiarity amongst residents and, in a business/organisational context, it is often the case that employees have close ties to influential individuals or groups that are outside of the workplace (e.g. politicians, unions, or business/organisational competitors, etc).”
“This study aims to explore the ways in which leadership behaviour and/or management practices are affected by this interconnectedness – particularly between managers and their subordinates.
