46-Yr-Old Man Pleads Not Guilty
A 46-year-old guest worker in Bermuda pleaded not guilty in Court this morning [Sept.27] to a charge of unlawfully wounding another person on 12th June this year.
The charge was laid against Armindo DaPonte who is employed by Ricardo Arruda of Arruda Construction. Mr Arruda also acted as Mr DaPonte’s interpreter.
After assuring himself that Mr Arruda was able to properly interpret, Senior Magistrate Archie Warner got Mr DaPonte’s agreement to have the matter dealt with at Magistrate court level, read out the charge, and then recorded Mr DaPonte’s interpreted plea of not guilty.
Mr DaPonte was granted $2,000 bail with one like Surety, and was given a trial date of 30th November 2011.

Interesting that he needed an interpreter….
I thought all guest workers had to speak and understand English to work in Bermuda.
hmmmmm…
you guessed wrong. There are plenty of these non-english speaking “guest workers” here who act just like this guy did.
If he did unlawfully wound someone he should have the same repercussions a Bermudian would receive. I have a feeling that won’t happen and his employer will pay his way out of it and still eligible to remain on the Island. smh
“If he did unlawfully wound someone he should have the same repercussions a Bermudian would receive.”
guess a slap on the wrist is on order then?!
I don’t know what the big deal is many Bermudians can’t speak english.
LOL!!
lmao
Knowing the basics of a second language to get by in their society and being able to fully understand the legal proceedings are 2 completely separate things. Have you ever sat in on a court case? I almost need a translator and English is my first language…
Aren’t we all allowed – “innocent until proven guilty”? How many Bermudians have seriously hurt someone and have received a “slap on the wrist”? Where’s the justice for the victims?
LMAO and how many Bermudians acting the a$$ in other countries!!England now have all the rejects! So quick to talk about our guest workers like they are nothing! Bermudians quick to move to England for welfare! Without them who would do the work Bermudians do not want to do??? Yes I am Bermudian!!!
We can tell by the comments who are NOT Bermudians!! LOL
But the bottom line is, if he is local or not, he needs to pay for the crime – if guilty!
Born and raised thank you!!!!! I am just being real!!!
@talk2mestr8 I agree with you 100%!!!
