Cross Country Season Set To Begin

September 22, 2011

The Bermuda Track & Field Association [BTFA] cross country season is set to begin this coming Saturday.[Sept.24]

BTFA President Donna Watson said, “After just a few weeks break the Bermuda Track & Field Association are back starting up the new season. We will be having our first cross country event this coming Saturday at 8:30am at Chaplin Bay. The age groups will be U12, U14, U17. U20, Open, Masters and Snr Masters.”

“We are deep in the preparation for Carifta 2012 which is going great but of course cross country season is the base for our middle and distance athletes in their preparation towards the Games. Hopefully we will see several of them out this weekend running around the sand dunes.”

“For some they will be using this to begin to get the kinks out and part of their plan towards getting in shape and some have been running throughout the summer and are already in shape. We are hoping to see several of our senior athletes also as we will be looking to send a team to the NACAC Cross Country and want to send the best team that we can.”

“That is our goal this year that for every International event we send out best athletes and really begin to make an impact for Bermuda even greater than we have last year and this year. We also always enjoy having our masters and senior masters athletes compete in the cross country series as there are awards to be won for the series as the athletes gather points based on their final positions.”
