Trio Of Alleged Robbers Appear In Court
Currently held on remand, after being charged with a taking part in a robbery on Hermitage Road in Devonshire, Zharrin Simmons, Ezra Williams, and Ezra Ararat appeared in Magistrates Court yesterday morning [Sept.21] for a scheduled bail hearing.
After a long and sometimes heated series of exchanges between the DPP’s Prosecutor and counsel for the trio, Senior Magistrate Archie Warner put the hearing back to 11:00am this morning.
The hearing had been at the specific request of lawyer Charles Richardson – representing Ezra Ararat. However the hearing led off with lawyer Marc Pettingill – for Zharrin Simmons – commencing a bail application on her behalf.
After delays and setbacks caused by unreadiness on the part of the DPP’s office, the scheduled 10:00am hearing was put back to 11:30am.
Re-starting at 11:45am, the hearing went on until 1:20pm with only Mr Pettingill able to have the time to make his submissions on behalf of Ms Simmons.
Despite a strong response from lawyer Charles Richardson who said that he had specifically asked for the hearing, had been present and ready at the scheduled time of 10:00am, and had now wasted almost four hours because of unreadiness emanating from the DPP’s office; the hearing was re-set to continue at 11:00am tomorrow, Thursday 22nd September. The trio will remain in custody overnight.
