Bye-Election Candidates Panel Discussion

October 24, 2011

Age Concern Bermuda will be hosting a panel discussion amongst the three candidates vying for the seat in the Devonshire South Central bye-election.

According to Age Concern Bermuda, Advocacy Co-Chair Mr. James McCulloch, “The panel discussion will provide an opportunity for the three candidates to share with the public their vision for a senior-friendly Bermuda.”

Mr. McCulloch went on to add, “We held a focus group amongst seniors living in Devonshire South Central on October 18 to hear what issues they would like to see addressed going forward.”

“Additionally, the Bermuda Government has stated that somewhere in the region of 700 residents will reach 65 this year. Each year, over the next 20 years, it is anticipated equal or greater numbers will reach 65.”

Mrs. Claudette Fleming, Age Concern Bermuda Executive Director stated, “Research shows seniors needs change as they get older and as a country we must continually identify and proactively address issues that affect them.”

“The candidates will be given time to talk about how they will ensure Bermuda’s seniors are a priority. They will also answer senior and ageing-specific questions from the audience.”

Mrs. Fleming concluded, “The general public, especially those living in Devonshire South Central, is invited to attend the panel discussion on Tuesday October 25 at Peace Lutheran Church Hall starting at 12noon.
