Day #1: 2011 World Rugby Classic Results

The opening night of the 24th World Rugby Classic was held last night [Nov.8] at the National Sports Center, and saw the New Zealand All Blacks and Britain’s Classic Lions both walk away with wins.

New Zealand 39 – United States 0

New Zealand got on the board when Danj Brunson scored a Try, and when Caleb Ralph kicked the Conversion it made the score 7 – 0. They then went ahead 17 – 0 on back to back a Try’s from Chris Middleton and when Ofisa Tonu’u scored a Try it made the half time score 22 – 0.

In the second half Brandon Haney scored a Try for New Zealand making it 27 – 0 before Tonu’u kicked the Conversion to extend the lead to 29 – 0, Try’s from Romi Ropati and Jason Spice earned New Zealand a 39 – 0.

Classic Lions 83 – Italy 5

The Classic Lions jumped out to a 38 – 0 half time lead after getting 2 Try’s from Hal Luscombe and single Try’s from Gareth Archer, Colin Charvis, Josh Lewsey and Fraser Waters as well as 3 Conversions from Andrew Gommersall and a single Conversion from Jon Petrie.

The onslaught continued in the second half as Ben Breeze scored a hat-trick of Try’s, they also got 2 Try’s from James Topping, Luscombe completed his hat-trick woth a Try in the second half and Ben Hinshalwood added another Try, Gommersall kicked 3 second half Conversions, while Hinshalwood and Luscombe both added a Conversion. Italy did get a consolation Try when Cristian Zannoletti went over for a Try.
