Pompano Fall Golf Classic Concludes

The Pompano Couple’s Fall Golf Classic concluded yesterday [Nov.5] at Belmont Hills. The wind and rain
held off so that the couple’s could enjoy their final day. Forty-eight couples competed this week playing
two rounds at Port Royal, Riddell’s Bay and Belmont Hills.

TEAM NET DIVISION – “Dark n Stormy Flight”
Wendy and Dale Sander of Pawley’s Island, South Carolina captured the 2011 Dark n Stormy Net Title. The Sanders played consistently all week and finished the tournament at 8 under, 274.

In second place were last year’s winners, Kitty and Byron Cottrell from New Smyrna Beach, Florida at 6 under, 276 overall. Third place goes to Susan and Angelo Sakelarios from Chelmsford, Massachusetts at 5 under, 277 overall. The Wellards dominated in both divisions and opted to defend their gross title.

TEAM NET DIVISION – “Rum Swizzle Flight”

Kathy and Jim Shannon of North Chelmsford, Massachusetts fired a remarkable 9 under 61 net in their final
round to capture the Net title in the Rum Swizzle Flight by one shot over the couple from Aurora,
Illinois, Patricia and Arunas Vasys.

The Shannons finished at 11 under, 271 and the Vasys finished at 10 under, 272 overall. This was no doubt an exciting finish to this division.

TEAM GROSS DIVISION
Barbara and John Wellard from North Bay, Ontario successfully defended their gross title with consistent play all week posting a 4 over 74 gross in their final round to leave them on 10 over, 292 overall for the tournament and an 11 shot victory over their nearest rivals who by all means did not play badly at all.

Florida;s Kitty and Byron Cottrell finished at 21 over, 303 all bythemselves making this a two horse race.

Prizes will be awarded in the gross and net division.

Due to popular demand the tournament, the couples were placed into two flights based on their combined index. ‘A” Dark n Stormy Flight and the “B” Rum Swizzle Flight.

The event has also been increased to a four day tournament.
