Remembrance Day Parade Tomorrow
[Updated] The Remembrance Day Parade to commemorate those who fell in the two World Wars is scheduled for 11a.m. tomorrow [Nov.11].
Governor Sir Richard Gozney and Premier Paula Cox will be among the dignitaries who will lay wreaths at the Cenotaph on Front Street, Hamilton and also at the War Memorial on the Cabinet Office grounds.
Wreaths will also be laid by the Mayor of Hamilton; Leader of the Opposition Craig Cannonier; representatives of the 1st Bn Caribbean Bermuda Contingent; the President of the War Veterans Association; Bermuda Militia Infantry; Chairman of the Defence Board, the Commanding Officer of the Bermuda Regiment, the Commissioner of Police and the Chief Fire Officer.
War vets march on during last year’s parade:
The following units will be on parade: War Veterans, Bermuda Regiment, Bermuda Regiment Band & Corps of Drums, Bermuda Regiment Gun Troop, Bermuda Cadet Corps, Bermuda Police, Bermuda Sea Cadets, Salvation Army Band, North Village Band & Somerset Brigade Band & Bermuda Islands Pipe Band and the St. John Ambulance Brigade.
The Parade will be under the command of Major C.R. Wheedon with Adjutant, Captain B.L. Beasley and RSM, W01, LG Lee.
Update 4.32pm: The police have issued November 11th Holiday Traffic Guidelines, as below.
“The Bermuda Police Service would like to advise the public about the following road closures, diversions and no parking zones in the City of Hamilton due to the Remembrance Day Parade on Friday November 11, 2011.
“Road Closures will be in effect from 10am until 12noon. They are as follows:
- · Front Street – between the junctions of Queen Street and King Street.
- · Court Street – between the junctions of Front Street and Reid Street.
- · Burnaby Street – between the junctions of Reid Street and Front Street.
“Road Diversions:
- · Traffic travelling into the City of Hamilton on Front Street from the west will be diverted onto Queen Street.
- · Traffic departing in an easterly direction from Front Street will be diverted north onto Parliament Street.
- · Traffic travelling into the City of Hamilton on East Broadway (Crow Lane) from the east will be advised to turn right at Spurling Hill or will be diverted north onto King Street.
“No Parking Zones will be in effect from 5am until the conclusion of the parade. They are as follows:
- · Both sides of Front Street – between Parliament Street and King Street.
- · Both sides of Court Street – between Front Street and Reid Street.
- · Both sides of Parliament Street – between Front Street and Reid Street.
- · No parking on Cabinet Grounds.”
