Mmmm sounds like someone knew something ahead of time, I thought it was just a warehouse/storage area.

    • Up or down ? says:

As it’s reported as the ‘Hitching Post building’ and I haven’t seen any signs of activity on the lower level for many years was it actually a ‘home invasion’ in one of the apartments above ?

Usual vague reporting of incidents that barely informs and leaves the readers/public with more questions than answers.

    • hmmm says:

Omg i thought the same thing, its definetly an inside leak somewhere.

where are the comments for this one…..one policeman has an accident on a wet road and there were a million stupid comments….5 men rob a store and there are no comments condemning this animalistic(for lack of a better word) behavior. You lot need to wake up and see where this is going. ARM THE POLICE

All that money spent on the cameras for what? Once you get a video or picture of the bike , car ,person , you still gotta prove the culprits Guilty. By the time you go court the paper works all lost… and what not.

WAKE UP BERMY THIS ISN’T gonna STOP !

  5. united says:

Bermuda, this is the future. Next, residences will be robbed in same manner. I appeal to the sane. Bermuda authorities think about an armed populace. I know it sounds dumb but punks will think twice before knocking over a house. As it is, only the criminals have the guns and the police , of course. The police are called AFTER the crime has been committed. Statistics show that where and anywhere where people are allowed to carry guns the crime rate is very, very low. Think outside the box.

      • PEPPER says:

Hey you lot… we let the previous Premier screw us..and we now are allowing the present premier to continue to screw us….how the hell do the people of Bermuda allow these so called leaders to continue to screw us ? and we all sit back and allow this to happen !!!! We need to send these screwers a message..
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH,….. think about it the people of Bermuda …stand up and say we will mot be screwed anymore…

        • MATURE says:

What does the premier’s have to do with this.

        • Just saying!! says:

Agree – totally – they have scr#wed us enough.

          ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

    • half truth says:

I agree with you united, at least arms in your house will make the want to be baby thugs think twice..its one thing to rob with a gun and be big and bad but thinking that person you are about to rob will have equalizers close at hand might change your mind if your a pu$$y to begin with. I dont support everyone having a gun but properly trained people that can make good judgements on when a gun use is necessary could at least give the law abiding citzen a chance to protect his life, property and family..other wise you might as well put your valuables on the curb for pickups like the trash each week…its only a matter of time, this type of robbery going unsolved will infect more loosers and they will join in the game. get ready bermuda the bad guys are watching your reactions to these crimes..these guys are like little children who wait for the parents reactions to something they have done…no punishment or preventive measures means they will continue their habits….

      • united says:

Everyone that applies for gun ownership needs to pass a background check a personality evaluation and pass a safety test. All mandatory and possible. There are people that do not like guns or the thought of having one but, think about it, when seconds count, the police are minutes away. Look at Switzerland or Sweden, I forgot. Everyone has to go into the military and when their stint is done they are obligated to keep their arms. One, is for personal protection and two if it is necessary to help the country in case of invasion, they are in Europe where there are some crazy leaders. There is practically ZERO crimes. I apologize that I don’t remember whether it is Switzerland or Sweden.

They didn’t rob the store…the store is up the street…It was the office that got robbed and if you watched the news you would have seen that it was as the security company came to collect the cash from the office…Its easy to hide…you had an escaped prisoner hide out for a year and the crew that robbed the security van of three bags of cash a few weeks ago on Front Street haven’t been caught either..so yes it is possible to hide…..,

  12. Razor Ramon says:

These guys will never get caught cause they were wearing helmets with dark colored visors. Government won’t ban the dark visors but they WILL increase the fare on the shortest ferry route 100% and raise duty at the airport to 35%. Makes sense to me.

    • ya says:

Banning dark visors isn’t going to solve the problem. These criminals are still going to do what they want. Of the thousands of people that use shaded visors, only a few are using them to commit crimes. I happen to very much appreciate my shaded visor when it is blazing hot and sunny.

      • tricks are for kids..... says:

I agree with you “ya” …Banning the visors is not going to solve anything..they were also wearing dark color clothing (as has been the case in other criminal acts) are we going to ban dark color clothing as well?

        • sharky says:

Get real bie…in no other country on earth can you walk into a coffee shop, mall or even down the street wearing anything close to a helmet with a concealed face.Or compare it to allowing every 20-35 year old male in Miami to walk around with a ball cap and mask. Not going to happen.Visors are for sheilding your eyes from the sun and not for disguising a cowardly mommas boy from sight.
These punks wouldn’t last 10 seconds on the streets of LA,Toronto or NY NY.
These pu$$ies don’t even know the low rider, pants around the butt style is old news and they would be laughed off the streets of those cities.
I chuckle when I hear them try the rapper chat on the street holding their pants up as they walk and a Yankee cap turned sideways on their square heads.I could go on and on because they are so out of it.But its a waste of my time to give the little rapper runts any more attention.

      • R you serious!!! says:

        To ya Says

Wear shades!!! It might not solve the problem but, it could help!

I liked to see you ride in a couple of those known areas tomorrow with your dark visor. Matter of fact, do that, and than post a comment!!!

        • bermyshotta says:

@ R u serious!!! – wah would dat do? guys drive thru places everday wit visors on. ain’t de visor at all…

      • shay lake says:

The idea that the helmet/visor are being used as a cover up to commit crimes… from what I have read and heard most of the shooter were hiding behind the mask making easy to hide and get away from the scene by blending in with public… making it impossilbe to be idenified

  13. Graeme Outerbridge says:

Somerset is not called the WILD WILD West for nothing^^

  14. Razor Ramon says:

The thugs will still commit the crimes but at least you can get a facial description. Also, keep in mind many of the robberies of tourists occurred when they were assaulted and had property taken from them when one bike pulled up to another. The robbers always were described as wearing dark visors.

    • tricks are for kids..... says:

And also described as wearing dark clothing..so again I ask…do we ban dark clothing as well???????????

      • Verysad says:

I’d have to agree with “tricks are for kids” outlawing dark visors is not going to stop crime the same way that creating laws against stealing doesn’t stop crime… Unfortunately, Bermuda’s problems run deep, in my opinion starting with dysfunctional families producing disrespectful kids who believe they can do whatever they want in society without repercussions and unfortunately they are right- a lot of the time they are protected by family members and friends who benefit and keep their sons crimes hush hush while the greater public suffers.

        • So clueless says:

They are disrespectful because you Adults don’t have any morals any more and have given into the evils of the world.

      • So clueless says:

Your missing the point. being identifiable is the deterrent.

        • tricks are for kids..... says:

You are missing the point as well! As one can be identified by the clothes that they wear as well…I am not missing the point as I understand fully what you are trying to get across..my point is why should we ban this and ban that because a select few are unable to conduct themnselves according to the laws of the land…..Dark visors are for a specific purpose, so why should I or anyone else who are using them for the purpose for which they are intended have to suffer……and no I shouldn’t have to wear shades if I choose not to?..How about the criminals doing the right thing for a change!

          • so clueless says:

You are trying to pick the bones out of the point.
identified by clothes and identified by face are two diffrent things. by i hope your just being silly. by your most likly one of the people that use dark vissors to do other sinful dirt.

            • tricks are for kids..... says:

@ Clueless give me a break! you have posted several “clueless” comments on here yourself judging by the reponses that you have received. Yes face identification and clothing identification are two different things just as apple and oranges are, you dont need to be a Rocket Scientist to figure that out. But, just as face recognition is important what the suspect is wearing is just as important. So while your trying to poke at me because you disagree with what I have said go and read some of your assinine comments that I have repectively chose to ignore even though I disagree.

PS. No I do not ride a bike, I have no criminal record at all (not even a speeding ticket) and I drive a car!!!!!! so “bang!” (no pun intended)

  15. FloridaGuest says:

I hope that each one of these scum of the earth idiots gets a taste of Karma real soon. May each of you that was involved have your homes burn down, get violently ill, have an accident that causes you to lose your fingers or something like this. You all need tragedy in your lives!!!! Sounds cruel I know, but anyone that has ever been robbed will tell you it can takes years to return to something close to normal while these idiots go on with life like nothing happened. No sympathy.

  16. Slick says:

The government might as well legalise weapons because it seems everyone has them.

  17. laws says:

even if we arm the police they cannot use their guns they have to get permission first in a situation they cannot just draw their guns. belive it or not…

    • Truth is killin' me... says:

      @laws That’s what you think!!!

      • tricks are for kids..... says:

Accordng to a couple of officers (unless they are lying) “laws” is absolutely correct.

  18. HeyBye says:

Time to arm the populace, the justice system has failed Bermuda miserably.
These punks are brazen because they know their victims do not have the counter fire power. If they did, these idiots, would think twice before committing armed attacks and robberies.
As it was mentioned before, will these gang attacks now be made on our homes?
Maybe time for the UK Gov to step in and shake up our legal system.

  19. smh says:

Merry Christmas to thm if thy don’t get caught. Think wisely and lock it off.. Soon 1 of the 5 will mess up and go spending crazy on CHIVAS !! LOLOL !!

  20. drunkenUrsula says:

you byes come check me my loan payment is due Friday….

  21. Truth is killin' me... says:

Bermuda it is high time that responsible security officers are trained properly in weapons handling and are qualified to carry a gun. These guys put their lives on the line everyday with these cash escorts and carrying businesses money. Those that think this is a drastic move are wrong. What Police officer do you know that drives around with hundreds of thousands of dollars in their car? Not one!!!

    • So clueless says:

Think that over! More guns? whats next when that don’t work? Bigger guns?
In other places those same responsible security officers, police are killing people just like the criminals.(they are human power will affect them)

Think out of the box. A better solution is the detection of guns.
Bermuda is 21 square miles we can use that to our advantage.

here is a better plan I just invented.

We can train those dogs that SPCA is putting to sleep.
Train them to detect gun powder. Then we put GPS on the dog collars on the dogs.
In a packs of 2 the dogs go and sniff out the location of the gunpowder and the GPS will relay the location to the police.

Note: This is not a solution to crime, this will fix the gun issue.

      • Truth is killin' me... says:

@So clueless:It is obvious that this cotton gloves approach is not working on this island and the guns are still getting here may it be through a shady officer taking money under the table or a Police officer turning a blind eye. I think you would change your mind if the gun was pinted at you.

        • So clueless says:

And we have proof that your idea will not work and has not worked.
it will only lead to more gun violence. About 10 or more years ago the police in the USA complained that the criminals have better and bigger guys then the police. So they so they gave some of the police Army(war issue) style guys. What has that solved?
The same thing will happen in Bermuda if they go down the path you suggested. More guns means that little things like a domestic abuse case will turn into murder. Using a gun is an easy way to kill someone. It requires less guts and result are almost instant.

          • united says:

You are so misinformed that it is pathetic. What part of illegal is so hard for you to grab? Illegal guns will always be ILLEGAL. The USA has fifty states with very different gun laws and where there is strict gun laws, the criminals rule and where the citizen is allowed to own guns, crime rates are low. For you to come on here and say the police in the USA. You know NOT what you talk about.

            • So clueless says:

O realy? why dont you do a google for legaly registered gun kills.
Im sure you can turn on the news and find examples.
People with no crimanal back grounds can brake down under the right presure and murder people just as easly as a harden crimanal could.

        • So clueless says:

I am a man of God ifear noone.

      • united says:

Yeah, you’re a tremendous inventor, right up there with Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell. It is thinking like yours that we have the problems we have today. The fight needs to be fierce and the same as theirs. Fight fire with fire. Having dogs sniff out guns? Are you kidding me. How has that worked out at the airport? Drugs are still coming through and guns.

        • So clueless says:

i have only seen one dog at the air port. and it seem that you must train them for one or the other. that dog most likely can only pick up dugs.

  22. Run With it!!!! says:

Wow!That’s the way you have a happy new year. This is a fresh start to whats to come in 2012. Inside jobs = Outside get aways ha!ha! and a ho!ho!

  23. Unclenick says:

You will see more of this if the economy gets any worse!

  24. Kevin McCottry says:

First and foremost, thank you all for posting your opinions – if we do not create a forum were we can discuss ways to resolve these problems – we will continue to be in the Dark Ages.

    That being said…

As a dual citzen of both Bermuda and United States, I’ve had the priviledge and honor to live in both countries. I’ve been in Bermuda for over 10 years now…oh how it has changed. Our countrymen/women have changed and, as previously stated, “this will not change for the better” – unfortunately.

I served for 9 years as a soldier in the US Army. A long story that can be told at another time. Never in all of my deployments was I in a battlefield scenario w/o my weapon(s). How can we expect “change” if the BPS first responders are not armed and ready to deal w/ a possible assailant? Why do our firemen get to these events before the police? It is ludicrous!

I can understand the fear of “arming the populus” but not arming the entire BPS and qualified security personnel is just silly. Way too many of us believe that “oh, it won’t happen in Bermuda” – the question is, “what are we going to do when it does happen?”

In my opinion, had the Arnold’s office had an armed security guard – this event could have been deterred. Which brings me to the security guards that transport funds from location A to B – is the vehicle armoured? I think not. Is there an armed guard in the back of vehicle? I think not. Why is the money not transported in a more secure case (which should be handcuffed to the armed security guard)?

If we continue to overlook these incidents and downplay them – we don’t stand a chance at keeping this island on the “up and up”. Train and educate the BPS. Train and educate the public. These are the two things that I would do IF I had a say…

May God continue to watch over our island home, Bermuda.

    • Concealed Carry Laws says:

I agree with your sentiments expressed. First responders and cash couriers should be armed to deter these “knuckle heads”. We’ll see how brazen they are when their victims have the capability to shoot back. Concealed gun carry laws could reduce crime on the island. Don’t believe me just read the research done already.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concealed_carry_in_the_United_States

    • so clueless says:

That is why all those people are killing themselves and their families with those legal guns in USA.
You even have case in that even the preteens kill other kids and or mom and dad.

      • united says:

Your name says it all. CLUELESS! Do the research, where there is conceal carry crime rates low, where there is very strict gun laws California, Massachusetts, New York and so on crime rate is very High. DO THE HOMEWORK and stop talking crap that you don’t know nothing about.

      • Kevin McCottry says:

I’m not sure of your reply…

What would you prefer to solve first? The armed robberies or “potential” suicides from weapons in one’s home (which I never agreed to)???

  25. DI says:

    5 men?

Lol, they travel in packs because they know theyre b*tches.

  26. Not Surprised says:

I think these securities company need to change their “pick up” schedules. if someone is watching they would notice that drop off and pick ups are the same time evry day. Security guards should also now be armed with a taser or a deterance with full training. In these days preperation is now the key and we can no longer depend on the good ole days, because we are far from it.I feel sorry for the guards that were robbed as this is very traumatic and can leave them changed forever.

  27. BABS says:

Well all I know is Franky Boy A must be ill!!!! Losing all that money to wanna be gangsters!! LOL I mean all you got to do is take note of the regularly scheduled timed pick up and Bam!!! there you go your rich for the week. Hope you get to enjoy it before one of you starts showing off with all your new sneakers and ya Bling Bling!!! And you once used to be broke A gets caught!!!!

  28. tricks are for kids..... says:

Whose to say that it is not an inside job?(within the security company) 2nd security van to be hit within weeks….haven’t caught the culprits from the first heist yet….

  29. Over My Dead Body says:

The days of using senior citizens as security officers are coming to and end. Oh yeah, and expect to start seeing bars on windows soon.

  30. laws says:

bermuda is the only country were u cannot arm your self with something. gun, tazer, pepper spray, knife etc.
