    • Shorta ranks says:

Exactly. No matter what they need to be locked up and given hard labour. We spoil them at home then school and wonder why they do these things. They had trips in school and trips at home and went he trips and toys stop they get desperate. One smoke leads to another and another and things get out of control. There will be more.

Isn’t it about now that a couple of dumbasses come on and say that crime is not too bad in Bermuda?

    • Anon says:

… even though this has been the lowest year for crime since 2000?

      • Mad Dawg says:

There were 1,139 offences in 2Q11, and increase of 14.9% compared to 1Q11.
Crimes against the Person increased 10.8%.
In 2Q11 there were 28 firearms incidents, and because this was a decrease over the 1Q11 firearm incidents, the stats were touted as evidence of great success in policing.

There are gunshots, shootings and armed robberies taking place daily. 5 or 6 years ago, these things would have been happening once or twice a year. Now, every day you read the news there is a new event.

Yet, there is always someone who will say that crime is the “lowest it has been since 200″. Amazing.

Some simple legislation from this worthless government can begin to make a little bit of difference. First, no such thing as concurrent sentences, all sentences need to be consecutive. Second, no chance of parole for any crime involving firearms. If possible, set up arrangements with China, India, Brazil, or some other country where there exists real jails and send those losers there for the next 30 years of their lives. These guys view government as a joke, have no respect for the community, and could care less. It’s time for the PLP to stop being such a piece of trash government and get serious about crime.

I’m in your corner….what is Caricom doing for us…..send these azzoles to Jamaican prisons at $5K per year instead of the 80K plus only to be release to do the same crime over again.

  5. Wondering says:

Business should invest heavily into cameras and make sure there are tapes in the machines and all is kept in working order. With the shootings and other violence and all in between, the police need as much help as they can get to solve every crime.

    • Fairy says:

Finally, someone with a sensible solution. Rather than placing blame how about doing something constructive to counter-act these crimes?
Get their faces on video, publish the mug shots of these idiots and let the community do it’s bit in fighting back.

    • Got to go says:

Unfortunately you speak the truth! It is imperative for businesses to do these things. The upfront costs aren’t actually too high. I just bought an infra-red security camera for my business the other day for like $40 bucks.

  6. Truth is killin' me... says:

The cops should check all the wannabe thugs hangin’ out on the estate wall past Gibbs Hill lighthouse towards St. Anne’s Road for answers. The perps left on foot. I bet they know a thing or two.

    • Anon says:

Call them, then! Instead of posting on Bernews; it’d certainly be of more benefit.

  7. Ian says:

Lol,yeah. When you’re only 5’7 youre gonna need a gun.

    F**king pu*sies

  8. Cancer says:

The government can’t clean up their own act – how they gonna clean up Bermuda?

  9. Bible says:

@ Got to go says and other that write comments< it is not the Government place to raise our children, it is you, me and every mature adult in the community to be the role models that they should look up too, writing trash and leave it for our kids to read, is not the message that we want branded into their minds, I don’t let my kids read the new online anymore as you are people that create the foundation of confusion in Bermuda.

Do you think these people that do these crimes don't read your comments? They are the same ones that steal computer.

    • Got to go says:

I didn’t mention anything about the responsibility of parents. That is most important. My comment is simply about legislation, which government has the sole responsibility for. Parents have no say about changing laws. Why are violent criminals getting 30 years for each charge against them, but serve 15 years? Legislation! Get rid of concurrent sentences and early release. That is my point. The current government has shown themselves as a group that is unwilling to change laws and get serious on crime.

      • Mad Dawg says:

And why is it the government appoints lame-brained simpletons on the parole board. Get some people on there who aren’t bowled over by the “I’m turning my life around” story from every gun-toting armed robber who wants to get out early.

  10. Bermyman says:

Why don’t we have hard labor in prison? Why do we not send young offenders to regiment full time? Make it their home for a sentenced period and anytime out of school that is where they end up or the army comes looking for them. Don’t give them guns, make them learn hard labor, respect and how to take care of themselves. We do not have effective rehabilitation for convicts and troubled youngsters. We just think throwing them into Westgate which costs 80k per head per year is the answer. I would have them paving roads, cleaning beaches, working at the dump etc. Use the labor we pay for and maybe just maybe these young guys will learn some self respect? Why is that not the case, why do we think just holding men in a prison cell is good enough?
Think what affect it would have when they see their cousins and mates working on the hot road in August in chains. Sends a message!

They probably walked straight home to mommy and deposited the cash in her safe at home………just a stones throw away…….these parents know what the children are doing, riiiiiiight!?!?
