Brazilian Singer’s Farewell Show
As Bermuda’s Chewstick Foundation continues to expand its events series to celebrate and support the endeavors of talented artists, Brazilian singer/songwriter and volunteer Fabiana Marcondes will be featured on Friday [Dec. 2].
Affectionately called Fabi by Chewstick staff and supporters, Ms Marcondes has become an integral part of the cultural organanisation’s activities.
“She has not only come through to assist with set up and promotions of our flagship event, the Legendary Open-Mic Jam Session, but has also attended all three retreats and collaborated with a number of our most noted artists,” said a spokesman. “Most recently Fabi was highlighted as the opening act for the Dewhurtz and Flexx’s Griot Session on Friday November 11.”
Ms Marcondes Fabi will be leaving Bermuda shortly to return to her home, so Friday’s event will be bittersweet for Chewstick.
“We will finally get the chance to assist in showcasing Fabi, but will have to say a long goodbye to her only a few days later,” said the spokesman.
Ms Marcondes will perform on at Chewstick’s Neo-Griot Lounge & Café on Elliot Street at 8 pm. Tickets are $10.00. Doors open at 7pm.
No stranger to the concept of collaboration, Ms Marcondes will be joined by K.A.S.E. Stephan Johnstone, and Djata during her show, to share some of the songs written as a product of Chewstick’s Spring and Summer retreats on Paget Island.
“It’s going to be a mix of poetry, singing, and rapping with crisp performances and melodious lyrics and an after-party that you won’t want to miss,” said the spokesman. “Adding to the event, opening act Djata will be treating us to some old favorites with a brand new flair; his magnificent guitar playing, thought-provoking lyrics and soothing, mellow voice will be a definite complement to Fabiana’s mellifluous styling.
Deidra-Lee Bean, Chewstick’s office administrator, said, “Fabi was only with us for a very short time, not even a year, but in that time she has made a tremendous impact and will surely be missed.
“We bid her a fond farewell as she returns home to reunite with her love and to continue what promises to be an amazing life story that we hope she will share with The Chewstick family.”
