Upcoming: New Year’s Eve In Hamilton

December 28, 2011

Bermuda residents planning to ring in the New Year in Hamilton can look forward to a star-studded evening of entertainment, one that will continue long after the traditional Onion Ball drops at midnight.

This year’s Front Street extravaganza promises to continue into the wee hours of the first day of 2012, with producers Spanish Town International confirming a dozen Bermuda musical acts are set to perform.

“It’s been said that the best things in life are free, and that we are our brother’s keeper,” said a Spanish Town spokesman. “So it’s within this sprit that Spanish Town has taken on the challenge, in these most trying times, of producing a free, family-oriented New Year’s Eve Celebration in the City of Hamilton.”

Spanish Town has invited locals and visitors alike to join the New Year’s Eve festivities which will get underway at No. 1 Car Park at 8pm on Saturday [Dec. 31] and last until at least 2am.

Activities will include an outdoor screening of the children’s film “A Shark’s Tale” and there will also be a special kiddies area where youngsters can play.

Live local entertainers such as Canjelae Taylor, Ramon Clarke, Joy Barnum, Ras Giorgis, Star Child, Wanda Raynor, Live Wires and Zion are all scheduled to appear, performing everything from reggae to R&B to rock.

A fireworks display over Hamilton Harbour will immediately follow the dropping of the Onion Ball at midnight.

Vendors will also be on hand selling food, soft drinks and New Year’s Eve party favours.

“Spanish Town is extremely grateful to the Government of Bermuda through the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Business Development & Tourism and the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs for encouraging us and providing us with the financial foundation to build even broader community support towards producing the event this year,” said a spokesman for the producers.

“We’d also like to thank the Corporation of Hamilton, the Bermuda Electric Light Company and Market Place who have all seen fit to sponsor the event thus further encouraging our team to forge ahead with growing confidence.”

St. George’s has already announced its New Year’s Eve itinerary, promising a hot time in the Old Town with festivities that get underway in King’s Square at 7 pm.
