Sailing: Cutler Looking Good In Key West
Bermuda resident Alec Cutler is off to a great start at Key West Race Week (KWRW) with two excellent days of racing under his belt.
Cutler has finishes of 4, 2, 8, 4, and 7 to place him third in the nineteen boat Melges 32 fleet. Moderate to heavy breeze under sunny skies has created perfect sailing conditions and allowed the Orbis executive a chance to show off his new boat “Hedgehog” (BER 1) and his Bermuda themed sails up near the front of the fleet.
Cutler’s mainsail and jib depict the outline of the island while his spinnaker displays a huge Bermuda flag. The Melges 32 fleet is one of the most competitive fleets at the regatta with most boats having one or more well known professionals on board assisting the owner/drivers including big names such as Ed Baird and Chris Larson.
After five races American Benjamin Swartz is tied with John Kilroy with 14 points while Cutler sits in third with 25 points. This is the 25th anniversary of KWRW, this year boasting a total of 112 boats in 12 classes.
