Steven Douglas To Officiate In Singapore
Bermuda’s Steven Douglas has been selected to officiate at the ICC WCL Division 5 Tournament to be played in Singapore on February 18 – 25, 2012.
Six teams including Argentina, Bahrain, Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Malaysia and hosts Singapore will compete in this tournament and the top two will gain promotion to the ICC World Cricket League Division 4 to be held later in the year.
In a press release, the ICC explained that the match officials for the event include Tony Hill of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires. Hill will be part of a team of officials from a wide-range of countries who will be officiating in a week-long tournament which begins on 18 February.
The umpires standing in WCL Div. 5 are:
Steven Douglas (Bermuda)
Rockie D’Mello (Kenya)
N Srivan Narayanan (Malaysia)
Durga Subedi (Nepal)
Tony Hill (New Zealand)
Afzal Pathan (Oman)
Sri Ganesh (Singapore)
The ICC added that former Sri Lanka Test bowler, Graeme La Brooy will be the referee for the tournament which takes place across three grounds in Singapore – Kallang Cricket Ground, Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) and the Indian Association Ground (IA). The start time for all games will be 0930 local time.
President of the BCB, Mr. Lloyd Fray stated, “I would like to congratulate Steven on his selection to officiate at the Division 5 Tournament. In May last year Steven umpired at the ICC WCL Division 7 Tournament in Botswana and his recent selection to the Division 5 tournament is a testament to his credibility at the international level.
“This is a great opportunity for Steven to work with other high level umpires to return to Bermuda to share his experiences with local officials.”
The Bermuda Cricket Umpire’s Associations stated, “The BCUA is delighted at Steven’s appointment to stand in the ICC WCL Division 5 tournament in Singapore and this is one more step in the pathway of our umpires’ career development.
“This marks another opportunity to showcase on the international stage the excellent quality of our local officials. In being exposed to the mentorship offered by ICC Elite Umpire Tony Hill, Douggie is well positioned to further uplift his colleagues and local cricket during the coming season.
